Artists’ estates are an integral part of managing an artist’s legacy and yet little attention has been given to this area. The sudden responsibility for an artistic legacy is not an easy role to manage. Caring for an artists’ legacy is crucial for the cultural heritage of tomorrow. Careful stewardship keeps the artists’ oeuvre alive. There is a role for diverse partners in this. Private and public as well as academic institutions have an important voice in the matter.
Our intention is to provide an opportunity for sharing on issues that relate to managing an artist’s estate and to provide the context for active discussion. What are good strategies and what role can museums, galleries and archives play? How can living artist’s best prepare their legacy? Can artists’ heirs cooperate and can they learn from each other? In this conference, the first of its kind in Ireland, we will examine these questions in greater depth by exploring three main topics- Legal & Financial, the Art Market and Managing the Legacy. The day is also aimed at networking and connecting artists, estates and service providers such as legal and financial professionals with an interest in the area.
This initiative is a collaborative venture between IVARO and Visual Artists Ireland.
